In a move eerily similar to the release of Ty Law, the Patriots are expected to release LB Rosevelt Colvin. It is reported that the move is salary-cap related, though one would assume that the Patriots wouldn't release Colvin if they thought they could work out a new deal. The swirling rumors surrounding this move are pointing to the fact that Colvin's injury may be more serious than previously expected. It is all speculation, of course, until we see how Colvin performs wherever he ends up.
The move should allow Adalius Thomas to move back to the outside while someone else (potential draft pick Gholston) will fill the void at MLB. This defense is getting a complete face-lift. I'm starting to believe that 2007 was our best shot to go undefeated…
From Mike Reiss:
In a move that appears to be salary-cap related, the Patriots are expected to release outside linebacker Rosevelt Colvin today, according to a league source.
Colvin, a marquee free-agent signing in 2002, was scheduled to count $7.6 million against the salary cap and earn a base salary of $5.5 million. The 2008 season was the final year of his contract.
Colvin was a starter at outside linebacker in the Patriots’ 3-4 scheme. His 2007 season was cut short by a foot injury sustained Nov. 25 against the Eagles, and the Patriots seemed to miss his pass rush coming down the stretch.
The 31-year-old Colvin was credited by the team’s coaches with 28 tackles last season, while adding four sacks.

Well, I am also freakin a little, but I really do trust BB and Pioli, so I know they are re-structuring the team for our best benefit and our best shot at the Super Bowl. I'm eagerly awaiting free agency, the draft et al….I'm pulling for Mike Jenkins from USF to be a Pat (as I am a Mainer living in St. Petersburg, FL). Go Pats!
