- A decision on the future of Tedy Bruschi should come by Thursday, writes ESPN's John Clayton. If he decides to play a 13th season, the Patriots would like to sign the veteran linebacker before the start of free agency.
"He's taking inventory right now; that's his term," Bruschi's agent, Brad Blank, told the Boston Globe. "His wife is a part of it and he'll make his intentions known soon."
Bruschi, who turns 35 in June, led the Patriots in tackles last season.
- Because of his inability to play in a 3-4 defense, The New York Jets have given 25-year-old LB Johnathan Vilma the permission to seek a trade. There's one catch: he's not allowed to negotiate with New England. Not to worry, the Pats also run a 3-4 defense, where Vilma would be useless.
However, this does make me wonder: if the Jets knew how bad Vilma performed in a 3-4 defense, why not allow him to seek a trade to New England? It would no doubt hurt the team, right? Maybe the Jets are nervous that Belichick might actually be able to turn this guy into a top 3-4 linebacker causing the Jets to look like fools. Just a thought.
